About this Special Issue

Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Submission Deadline 1 May 2025

Background

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to transform the landscape of hernia surgery, one of the most frequently performed procedures worldwide. This Special Issue seeks to explore the innovative applications of AI in this field, from diagnosis and surgical planning to intraoperative assistance and postoperative care. AI technologies offer significant potential in enhancing the precision and efficiency of hernia surgeries. Preoperatively, AI can assist in diagnosing and assessing hernias through advanced imaging analysis, allowing for tailored surgical approaches. During surgery, AI-powered robotic systems and augmented reality can provide real-time guidance, improving accuracy and reducing errors. These technologies can help identify anatomical landmarks and optimize surgical mesh placement. Postoperatively, AI-driven tools can monitor recovery, detect early signs of complications, and inform follow-up care strategies, aiming to minimize recurrence and improve long-term outcomes. Additionally, AI can analyze large datasets from hernia registries to uncover insights that can drive future research and clinical guidelines. This Special Issue invites submissions on these topics and more, aiming to gather diverse perspectives and cutting-edge research on the integration of AI in hernia surgery. We look forward to your contributions that will help shape the future of this field through the power of artificial intelligence.
