About this Special Issue

  1. Manuscript Summary Submission Deadline 30 April 2025 | Manuscript Submission Deadline 31 July 2025

Background

The field of drug-device combination products has evolved as a pivotal area in modern healthcare, bridging the gap between pharmacology and medical device technology. These products, such as prefilled syringes, transdermal patches, and implantable devices, offer innovative solutions for enhancing drug delivery, patient compliance, and therapeutic outcomes. The integration of drugs and devices holds the promise of individualized therapy, enabling precision in treatment by considering patient-specific factors. As global demand for these combination products continues to rise, there is a growing need to explore advancements in their development, regulatory pathways, and clinical applications.

This Special Issue seeks to address the critical challenges and opportunities in the lifecycle of drug-device combination products, from concept to commercialization. We aim to uncover how advancements in materials science, biocompatible technologies, and digital health tools can propel the development of these products. Furthermore, the issue will explore how individualized therapy can be achieved by tailoring drug-device combinations to meet unique patient needs. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, this issue aspires to provide a comprehensive platform for sharing knowledge on design strategies, manufacturing innovations, regulatory considerations, and clinical evaluation of drug-device combinations.

We welcome submissions that advance the field of drug-device combination products, particularly their application in individualized therapy. Topics of interest include the development of innovative systems for targeted or sustained drug delivery, the use of biocompatible materials and novel fabrication technologies, and the exploration of regulatory strategies, challenges, and approval pathways. Contributions highlighting the integration of digital health technologies and smart systems in combination products, as well as clinical and preclinical studies evaluating their efficacy, safety, and patient outcomes, are highly encouraged. Additionally, case studies showcasing unique applications of these products in specific therapeutic areas are invited to provide valuable insights into their real-world impact and potential for personalized care.

Submissions are encouraged to demonstrate innovative methodologies, interdisciplinary approaches, and real-world applications. Together, this collection will provide a comprehensive understanding of how drug-device combination products can revolutionize treatment paradigms and deliver individualized care.
