Results or reason: Changes of microbiota in autoimmune and inflammatory dermatoses

About this Special Issue

  1. Manuscript Summary Submission Deadline 30 April 2025 | Manuscript Submission Deadline 31 October 2025

Background

Skin diseases are often labelled as rarely affecting the quality of life or being life-threatening. However, chronic disorders, such as atopic dermatitis may significantly decrease welfare by impairing social and personal daily life and result in depression or anxiety.

It has been clear for many years that microbiota play essential roles in skin diseases occurrence and development but despite recent studies and efforts of researchers, our understanding of the link between the skin microbiota and autoimmune or inflammatory skin diseases is still full of gaps and the knowledge is still incomplete. One of the examples is the fact that in contrast to the gastrointestinal tract use of probiotics in skin microbiota modulation has not been realized. Thus, understanding the balance between skin and microbiota is essential.

The aim of the current issue is to gather papers focusing on skin and microbiome interactions in one place to boost the comprehension of mechanisms of complicated interactions between the microbiome and skin immune system to further the development of diagnostic and therapeutic tools.

We particularly welcome the papers describing interactions between skin microbiota and mucosal immune system.

The scope of the edition include but is not limited to:
• the effects of the imbalance between the skin microbiota and mucosal immune system in skin autoimmune diseases
• development of specific microbiome markers for skin allergies
evaluation of microbiome changes in skin inflammatory diseases
• the influence of drugs used in skin disorders on skin microbiotathe effects of the imbalance between the skin microbiota and mucosal immune system in skin autoimmune diseases
