About this Special Issue
20th century technological advances have led to remarkable progress in biological sciences, including virology. This resulted in numerous viruses being identified and many diseases becoming treatable, while some are even considered eradicated. As our knowledge and technological capabilities improve, so too does our understanding of the intricate details of virology. For example, we have made significant advancements in understanding virus-host interactions that may result in the development of new treatments. In addition, using viruses, we were able to describe important cellular mechanisms, such as endocytosis or RNA splicing; or the existence of oncogenes. However, despite all these scientific advancements, the recent pandemics have emphasized the profound impact viruses can have on our daily lives and the need to continue our efforts in understanding viruses and studying their interactions with the hosts.
The goal of this Special Issue is to reflect on the history of virology in Central Europe and its continuation in today's world. We encourage authors to submit manuscripts that describe the most important findings obtained in our region. We are particularly interested in manuscripts that highlight the impact of these findings on our current knowledge of virology and their influence on the future direction of the field. Potential areas of interest may include, but are not limited to:
● Virus-host interactions
● Viruses and immunity
● Virus ecology
We encourage the submission of different article types to this collection, especially reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, and original research papers. For a complete list of article types that can be considered, please follow this link. Though abstract submission is not mandatory, we encourage all interested researchers to submit an abstract before submitting their manuscript. Abstracts do not have to coincide with the final abstract of the manuscripts.
