Article Types

The article types below are accepted for submission to the European Journal of Cultural Management and Policy . The European Journal of Cultural Management and Policy offers multiple article types to maximize your options for disseminating your work. 

Please ensure that any manuscript you submit to conforms to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommendations for ethics, as well as to the general article requirements. All submitted manuscripts will be checked by plagiarism detection software. 

All articles are peer-reviewed, receive a DOI, are citable, published in PDF and HTML format, and submitted for indexing in relevant digital archives.

Original Research

Original Research articles report on primary and unpublished studies. Original Research may also encompass confirming studies and disconfirming results which allow hypothesis elimination, reformulation and/or report on the non-reproducibility of previously published results. Original Research articles are peer-reviewed, have a word count of 5,000-10,000 and may contain no more than 15 figures/tables. Original Research articles should include an abstract and the body text should include an introduction, followed by the presentation of materials and methods, presentation of the results and discussion. 

Review

Review articles cover topics that have seen significant development or progress in recent years, with comprehensive depth and a balanced perspective. Reviews should present a complete overview of the state of the art (and should not merely summarize the literature), as well as discuss the following: 1) Different schools of thought or controversies, 2) Fundamental concepts, issues, and problems, 3) Current research gaps, 4) Potential developments in the field. Review articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 12,000 and may contain no more than 15 Figures/Tables. Review articles should have the following format: 1) Abstract, 2) Introduction, 3) Subsections relevant for the subject, 4) Discussion. Review articles must not include unpublished material (unpublished/original data, submitted manuscripts, or personal communications) and may be rejected in review or reclassified, at a significant delay, if found to include such content.

Mini Review

Mini Review articles cover focused aspects of a current area of investigation and its recent developments. They offer a succinct and clear summary of the topic, allowing readers to get up-to-date on new developments and/or emerging concepts, as well as discuss the following: 1) Different schools of thought or controversies, 2) Current research gaps, 3) Potential future developments in the field. Mini Reviews articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 3,000 and may contain no more than 2 Figures/Tables. Mini Review articles should have the following format: 1) Abstract, 2) Introduction, 3) Subsections relevant for the subject, 4) Discussion. Mini Review articles must not include unpublished material (unpublished/original data, submitted manuscripts, or personal communications) and may be rejected or reclassified, at a significant delay, if found to include such content.

Impact

Impact papers aim at bridging the gap between scientific research and practice, facilitating the cooperation and confrontation between academics and professionals, and stimulating debate in the whole EJCMP community of stakeholders. They analyse the real impact of research on practice or stimulate scientific reflection on “real world” cultural management and policy experiences. They are usually co-authored by researchers and professionals or written by high-profile practitioners.  Impact papers are peer-reviewed by both practitioners and researchers, they have a word count of 2,000-3,000 words and may contain a maximum of 8 figures/tables.

Policy Brief

Policy Briefs articles are short contributions that provide the rationale and/or a practical and evidence-based analysis of policy-related issues. This article type also provides policy options and actionable recommendations which allows it to be used as a decision-making tool. Policy Briefs articles are peer-reviewed, have a maximum word count of 3,000 and may contain no more than 5 figures/tables. Policy Brief articles should include an abstract and the body text should include an introduction, followed by sections on policy options and implications, actionable recommendations, and conclusions. 

Commentary

Commentaries present a critical analysis of a recent work in the field of cultural management and policy, published in the past in the form of a book, report, policy paper, etc. The reviewed work may be in a language other than English. They must emphasize why the work is relevant for the field of knowledge of cultural management and policy. Commentaries must have their own title, which is different from that of the reviewed work. They are short peer-reviewed. Commentaries should not contain figures/tables and have a maximum word count of 2,000.

Biography

Biographies focus on the academic and professional trajectories of leading thinkers and key people in the field of cultural management and policy, and focus on their contributions to the advancement in the field, connecting them to the extent possible to current developments and debates. Biographies are short peer-reviewed. Biographies may contain 1 image of the person – copyright free or permission granted to the author, have a word count of 1,000-1,500, and may include references.

Editorial

Editorials are short essays that explain journal policies or express the author’s viewpoint. Authors planning to submit an Editorial must contact the Editorial Office at EJCMP@FrontiersPartnerships.org beforehand. Editorials have a maximum word count of 1,000 words.

Special Issue Editorial

Special Issue Editorials are short essays authored by Special Issue Editors that express the author’s viewpoint. Special Issue Editorials have a maximum word count of 1,000 words.
